I did it, I am so excited I made my first crochet bowl! I have always wanted to, but never really got around to it. This is one of the reasons the “Crochet theme months” was created, as a way to encourage me to get the things on my “Crochet Bucket list” done. In this case, it was to make a delicate crochet bowl.
I have already covered the steps in the last post on how to use stiffener to harden your thread crochet items, so I will not be covering that in today’s post.
What I am going to do is show how you I made my lacy bowl.
Step 1: find a doily pattern and crochet it.
Step 2: find a bowl that is in the desired shape of the bowl you are making. Make sure your doily will cover the bottom of the bowl with nothing hanging over the edges.
Step 3: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap, this will not only protect the bowl, it will also help prevent the thread from sticking to the bowl.
Step 4: Now go through the steps for stiffening the thread.
Step 5: Wrap some plastic wrap around a piece of cardboard that is at least as big as the bowl circumference.
Step 5: Turn the bowl upside and drape the doily over the bowl.
Tip: Try to smooth out the wrinkles as much as possible. What you see is how it will dry.
Step 6: Now walk away and let dry for at least 8 hours.
Step 7: upon returning, gently remove the doily form the bowl. (Plastic can now go in the trash)
Congratulations!!! You now have a beautiful crochet lacy bowl, for either a gift to yourself or another for sale. Do not do what I did and wait until your middle age to try this. If you want one, do it today.
What are some of the more creative things you have used your crocheted doilys for? Please share and pass your experience for others to be inspired.
Until next time, keep those hooks flying.
