This week I finished working on my fifteenth kit from Annie’s Hook & Needle Club, the Elegant Table Runner. It was an enjoyable pattern to crochet. The pattern called for me to repeat four sets of rows until I had the desire length. The pattern is marked easy, making this a great pattern for a beginner who would like to crochet on the higher end of easy. The basic stitches are chain stitch (
The Chain Stitch), single crochet (Single Crochet) and double crochet (Double Crochet) with two specialty stitches of a double crochet decrease (Double Crochet decrease) and Bobbles (Bobbles). I always have fun crocheting Bobbles.
The kit came with two patterns; one with instructions for knitting and the second for crocheting. In the kit was also provided two skeins of yarn, Sinfonia in the color of Blanco. All I needed to provide to finish the kit is a G hook and a fringe maker.
The finished project, including the fringe, measures 10 X 32 inches. Once I began to master the pattern as I crocheted, I allowed my mind to wander on where I would put the finished table runner. This is when I came to the stinging realization that the finished size was a little too small for the few places in my home where I could display a table runner. I have a confession to make, this is the first kit from Annie’s that I have taken some poetic licensing with the pattern. I decided to omit the fringe and use the extra yarn to extend the length of the table runner to measure 42 inches. This enabled me to use it on a hall table that was in desperate need for some decorative touches. For anyone who is wanting to mimic what I did, there is enough yarn to achieve this.
I have include a picture from the pattern (above) that was sent me, just in case anyone would like to see the intended results from the original pattern. The pattern called for a double knot fridge which really does have an elegant effect. It was just not want I needed in my home at this time.
I rated this kit a ten. The pattern itself was very readable and easy to understand. This would be a great pattern for a beginner who would like to test their skills with something that was on the higher end of an easy pattern.
If I ever want to repeat my experience with the yarn I found some skeins at my local Hobby Lobby. The yarn was easy to work with and crochets up beautifully, although I would suggest taking the time to roll it into balls before crocheting with it.
I could easily see myself crocheting this pattern again, this would be perfect for a house warming gift or even a nice gift to give at a bridal shower. The nice thing is that it works up in two afternoons.
Has anyone here ever adjusted a pattern to fit there needs. I would love to hear about your journeys with your creative impulses.
Until next time, keep those hooks flying.
I have this pattern and am doing the knit pattern. I’ve run into a problem as to how to create the design. would you be able to help me?
