Decreasing in crocheting it really just subtracting a stitch, or more simply, taking two or more stitches and combining them into one. In this double crochet decrease tutorial you are taking two stitches and combining them into one.

As mentioned in an earlier post, decreasing is used to narrow a project or piece that you are working on. This technique is useful when it comes to shaping such things like an armhole, slippers or making stuff toys.

A Double Crochet Decrease will appear in abbreviation form the following three ways. Although designers may have different ways to abbreviate it, they are all made the same way.

I am hoping you found this tutorial useful. If you have a stitch you are having trouble with or would like to learn please let me know. I would love to do a tutorial on it. Later on today I will be posting a tutorial on The Basic Tunisian Stitch.

Until next week, keep those hooks flying.
